119th Congress
Last Friday, I joined the 18th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council for their annual In Memoriam blessing, remembrance, and prayer honoring the more than 900 civilian children, women, men, and elders who lost their lives during the Battle of Saipan. The event was held at the Marianas Memorial Monument, whose walls carry the names of those we lost. I took a moment to walk the wall and reflect on the names of Rosarios and Kings in my own family, listed among the many. It was a solemn reminder of the weight of our history and the resilience of our people.
Earlier this week, I released a video about the ongoing public comment period that opened after the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management issued a formal Request for Information and Interest on possible seabed mineral leasing offshore the Northern Mariana Islands. This step begins a long federal process and does not authorize mining, but it does open a 30 day window for public input. Your voice matters here.
