More on Military
More than 81 years after the Battle of Saipan, we pause to honor the life and sacrifice of U.S. Marine Sergeant Frank L.
Wednesday evening, I had the pleasure of meeting with Gerry P. Crisostomo, a proud son of the Marianas now living in Maryland. Gerry is a retired U.S. Army veteran and currently serves as Senior Program Manager with General Dynamics Mission Systems, a company that provides mission-critical solutions across land, sea, air, space, and cyber domains. Gerry was in D.C.
Shout out to Command Sergeant Major Ronald DLG Hansen! Congratulations on being named the new Joint Base Lewis-McChord Garrison command sergeant major in Washington State. Your 24 years of service, from platoon sergeant to first sergeant to combat deployments in Operation Iraqi Freedom, make the Marianas proud. Thank you for your service, and congratulations once again on this incredible achievement.
I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with my friend and colleague, Congressman Mark Takano of California. As the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Congressman Takano has long been a champion for the men and women who served our nation. Our conversation touched on the challenges veterans face both here in the CNMI and across the country, and it was encouraging to exchange ideas on how we can better serve them. This week, I met again with Andrew Miller, Greg David, and Brian Cain while they were in Washington for meetings with the Department of Defense. Some residents may have noticed fewer prepositioning ships in our waters in recent months. These vessels, vital to our national security, regularly require servicing and repairs, but that work is being done elsewhere in the region.
Joint Task Force Micronesia Rear Admiral Joshua Lasky visited the Congressional Office this week to continue our conversations about Depart
I love seeing the incredible things our own are doing out in the world, and I could not be more proud of Saipan’s own Gio Hur. I saw the story on her new book, Islands After the War, which she and her fellow Harvard classmates put together after studying postwar landscapes in Okinawa, Iejima, Saipan, and Tinian. This is such a cool project, and I hope you can come celebrate it at the launch on Saturday, August 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. The authors will join on Zoom, with their local collaborators there in person.
