Farewell Diego
I wanted to begin this week’s recap by sharing a few thoughts on the passing of Former Lieutenant Governor Diego Benavente. In his life, Diego was many things. He was a legislator and a leader in our government, serving as Speaker of the House and as our sixth Lieutenant Governor. He was also a fisherman, a businessman, a husband, a brother, a father, and a grandfather. And he was a friend to so many, not only in the CNMI but throughout the region. Over the past few months, Diego was a source of tremendous inspiration for me and for many others. He chose to live his life on his own terms, and in doing so he reminded all of us to pause, step back from the noise and the rush, and think about what we are truly living for during our time on this earth. For his life of service, his contributions to our community, and for showing us what it means to live with purpose, I thank him and I thank his family. Godspeed, Diego.
