Last Friday, I joined the 18th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council for their annual In Memoriam blessing, remembrance, and prayer honoring the more than 900 civilian children, women, men, and elders who lost their lives during the Battle of Saipan. The event was held at the Marianas Memorial Monument, whose walls carry the names of those we lost. I took a moment to walk the wall and reflect on the names of Rosarios and Kings in my own family, listed among the many. It was a solemn reminder of the weight of our history and the resilience of our people. I was grateful to stand with our community, offer prayers, and lay a wreath in their memory. Moments like this ground us in who we are and the responsibility we carry to honor their legacy.
