More on Military
Last Friday, I joined the 18th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council for their annual In Memoriam blessing, remembrance, and prayer honoring the more than 900 civilian children, women, men, and elders who lost their lives during the Battle of Saipan. The event was held at the Marianas Memorial Monument, whose walls carry the names of those we lost. I took a moment to walk the wall and reflect on the names of Rosarios and Kings in my own family, listed among the many. It was a solemn reminder of the weight of our history and the resilience of our people.
More than 81 years after the Battle of Saipan, we pause to honor the life and sacrifice of U.S. Marine Sergeant Frank L.
Wednesday evening, I had the pleasure of meeting with Gerry P. Crisostomo, a proud son of the Marianas now living in Maryland. Gerry is a retired U.S. Army veteran and currently serves as Senior Program Manager with General Dynamics Mission Systems, a company that provides mission-critical solutions across land, sea, air, space, and cyber domains. Gerry was in D.C.
Shout out to Command Sergeant Major Ronald DLG Hansen! Congratulations on being named the new Joint Base Lewis-McChord Garrison command sergeant major in Washington State. Your 24 years of service, from platoon sergeant to first sergeant to combat deployments in Operation Iraqi Freedom, make the Marianas proud. Thank you for your service, and congratulations once again on this incredible achievement.
I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with my friend and colleague, Congressman Mark Takano of California. As the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Congressman Takano has long been a champion for the men and women who served our nation. Our conversation touched on the challenges veterans face both here in the CNMI and across the country, and it was encouraging to exchange ideas on how we can better serve them. I’m especially grateful for his support of my bill,
The CNMI and American Samoa are the only two jurisdictions in the United States without a National Guard. The Guard plays a vital dual role, supporting our nation’s military while also serving states and communities during times of disaster.
