Congratulations to Jordan Roiland on his appointment as the University of California’s 2027-28 Student Regent-designate. Jordan will represent students from across the University of California system, serving on the Board of Regents, which governs all 10 UC campuses. Jordan lived and worked in the CNMI from 2022 to 2024, serving with the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Public Health Associate Program.
While on Tinian, I appreciated the opportunity to sit down with Mayor Edwin P. Aldan to discuss the island’s ongoing recovery from Super Typhoon Sinlaku, the federal response, and the work still ahead. We talked about the progress that has been made, the challenges that remain, and how we can continue working together to make sure Tinian’s needs are heard in Washington. Recovery is not just about repairing damage. It is about making sure our communities have the resources and support they need to come back stronger.
The Commonwealth’s Criminal Justice Planning Agency has received two significant grants from the Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women. The FY 2026 STOP Formula Grant Program has awarded $620,987 to strengthen partnerships among law enforcement, prosecution, courts, and victim services, enhancing strategies to combat violent crimes against women and support victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
