Disaster Unemployment Assistance can provide critical support for workers who lost income because of Super Typhoon Sinlaku, and we know many businesses and employees have been, and continue to be, affected. We have been working closely with FEMA to help move the CNMI’s request forward. After speaking with FEMA Region 9 leadership last week, we confirmed that the Commonwealth’s request remains under active federal review and clarified the remaining steps in the process.

I was proud to see CNMI resident Amalia Pangelinan featured by the University of Hawaiʻi for her work supporting the Commonwealth's recovery following Super Typhoon Sinlaku. Amalia, a Master of Social Work student at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, was completing her final internship requirements when the storm struck. Rather than stepping away from the needs around her, she shifted her efforts toward disaster response, supporting food distribution with World Central Kitchen as communities across Saipan worked through the immediate aftermath of the typhoon.
