I was proud to see CNMI resident Amalia Pangelinan featured by the University of Hawaiʻi for her work supporting the Commonwealth's recovery following Super Typhoon Sinlaku. Amalia, a Master of Social Work student at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, was completing her final internship requirements when the storm struck. Rather than stepping away from the needs around her, she shifted her efforts toward disaster response, supporting food distribution with World Central Kitchen as communities across Saipan worked through the immediate aftermath of the typhoon.

Last week my D.C. office had the pleasure of meeting with Richard Macaraeg, a former Saipan resident and graduate of Saipan Southern High School. He now serves in the Coast Guard and is stationed in Alexandria, Virginia.

This week we welcome Soledad Sablan to our Washington congressional office as our newest summer intern. As a Communications major at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Soledad continues to showcase a strong dedication to serving our islands and giving back to the community. She is eager to deepen her understanding in public service and government engagement throughout her tenure. We are excited to have Soledad join our team this summer and look forward to the insights, creativity, and meaningful contributions she will bring to our office.
