The CNMI is receiving more than $2.7 million in additional FEMA funding to cover eligible costs associated with the Commonwealth’s COVID-19 emergency response. A $250,180 FEMA grant will fund backup generators and emergency power systems for Commonwealth Utilities Corporation (CUC) lift stations and water facilities across the CNMI. The generators will provide critical backup power to help maintain water services during power outages and emergencies. The project has a total estimated cost of $1.22 million and is funded through FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program under Section 404 of the Stafford Act, following Super Typhoon Yutu. This investment will help keep essential water services running when the CNMI needs them most.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program has awarded a $21.4 million grant to the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation to support recovery from Super Typhoon Sinlaku and Typhoon Bavi. The VA’s National Cemetery Administration awarded up to $3.11 million for Tinian and $3.51 million for Rota and will reimburse the Commonwealth up to $538,600 for the fabrication and delivery of pre-placed crypts.
