This year, our nation will mark the 250th anniversary of American independence, and here in the CNMI, the CNMI America250 Commission is already hard at work making sure our islands are part of that historic moment. The year ahead will also recognize the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Covenant, making this a meaningful time for reflection, learning, and participation, especially for our young people. One of the first opportunities this year is America’s Field Trip, a nationwide student contest open to students in grades 3 through 12.

I appreciated Mr. Bill Torres from the Northern Marianas Technical Institute stopping by the Saipan District Office this week to meet with the congressional team. NMTI is looking at some truly transformational initiatives this year, with a focus on strengthening vocational training and expanding opportunities for our workforce. I am grateful for his willingness to share updates and, most importantly, the priorities and needs NMTI is focused on in the year ahead, so we can stay aligned and work together to support their plans as they move forward.
