Small Business Committee Hearing on Cutting Red Tape
On Wednesday the Small Business Committee held a hearing entitled “A Voice for Small Business: How the Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy is Cutting Red Tape”. Dr. Casey B. Mulligan, Chief Counsel of the Office of Advocacy at the SBA, testified before the committee about his office’s work to eliminate harmful regulations across the federal government, and to make sure that federal agencies consider the impacts on small businesses when they promulgate new regulations. I described to Dr. Mulligan how federal regulations designed for the mainland are often ill-suited for remote jurisdictions like our own and urged him to account for these differences when evaluating the impact of federal regulations and advocating for reform. Reforming federal regulations that don’t account for the unique circumstances of our islands is a top priority of mine and I continue to push for changes through the Small Business Committee and elsewhere.
