Congresswoman King-Hinds Sends Letter to Chair of National Endowment for the Humanities
Washington – Last Friday, Congresswoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds sent a letter to Acting Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), Michael McDonald, regarding the termination of three grants for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). In the letter, Congresswoman King-Hinds requested an explanation and urged the Trump administration to reconsider the cuts.
“I am struggling to understand how the decision aligns with the broader objectives of his administration,” said Congresswoman King-Hinds. “Throughout my time in Congress, I have advocated against one-size-fits-all federal policies—a principle I know this administration shares…I am deeply concerned that a blanket action, made without full regard for the CNMI’s distinct circumstances and strategic importance, could unintentionally undermine the very goals the administration seeks to achieve.”
Congresswoman King-Hinds emphasized the importance of the grants in preserving and promoting the Northern Marianas’ cultural heritage through oral histories, educational programs, and cultural preservation initiatives.
“Its programming illustrates how local heritage and national identity can coexist and thrive under the American flag,” said Congresswoman King-Hinds.
Congresswoman King-Hinds is actively working to preserve the CNMI’s unique culture and ensure its heritage is protected.
