Congresswoman King-Hinds Celebrates Accomplishments During First 100 Days in Congress
Washington – Today, Congresswoman King-Hinds touted a record full of accomplishments in 100 days as a freshman member of Congress representing the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
“When I ran for Congress, my slogan was ‘Level Up,’” said Congresswoman King-Hinds. “From the moment I raised my right hand and took the oath of office, I hit the ground running to do everything possible to elevate the CNMI.”
Upon being elected, Congresswoman King-Hinds quickly showed her leadership capabilities and was appointed to three committees and seven subcommittees—an unusually large number for a freshman member. She serves on the House Committees on Veterans’ Affairs, Small Business, and Transportation and Infrastructure. While serving on these committees, she has been asked on several occasions to be the temporary chair and oversee the hearings. Her work on the committees has been geared toward ensuring that small businesses and veterans in rural or remote communities in America are not left behind.
The Congresswoman has taken over 100 official meetings over the last 100 days. These meetings have included President Donald J. Trump, several of his cabinet members, ambassadors of foreign nations, and congressional colleagues—promoting the interests of the Northern Mariana Islands at the highest levels.
Congresswoman King-Hinds has introduced two pieces of legislation: The Employment Services and Jobs Parity Act and the Marianas Air Service Improvement Act.
Employment Services and Jobs Parity Act - to amend the Wagner-Peyser Act of 1933 and include the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) in federal employment service programs. The legislation ensures that workers in the CNMI receive the same employment assistance, job training, and labor exchange services currently available in the 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Guam.
Marianas Air Service Improvement Act - a landmark bill aimed at reestablishing eligibility for Northern Marianas airports to participate in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Essential Air Service (EAS) Program. EAS currently supports air service in over 150 communities across the U.S., primarily in rural or isolated communities. It is a critical measure to ensure that the CNMI’s airports remain connected to the broader U.S. air network, providing both stability and access for residents and visitors alike.
In addition to introducing two bills, Congresswoman King-Hinds has co-sponsored 20 bills that assist U.S. territories, veterans, and small businesses. She has also voted for key legislation supporting small businesses and veterans, which successfully advanced through committees.
The Office of Congresswoman King-Hinds has had an active case worker record, having already contacted eight federal agencies and resolved 26 constituent cases. With a list of accomplishments in just 100 days, Congresswoman King-Hinds vows to keep fighting for the Marianas.
“This is just the beginning,” said Congresswoman King-Hinds. “I am not going to take my foot off the gas.”
