Working with FEMA to move recovery forward
On Thursday, I had the opportunity to meet with FEMA Region IX Administrator Robert Fenton to discuss the recent notice sent to the CNMI regarding FEMA funding tied to Super Typhoon Yutu. The message was clear—FEMA wants to see movement on these long-delayed recovery projects, and fortunately so do we. My goal in the meeting was to reinforce our shared interest in rebuilding, while also making sure FEMA understands the real challenges the CNMI has faced in pushing these projects forward—from environmental reviews to federal authorization hurdles. We all want the same outcome: to rebuild our schools, restore public facilities, and get our community back on its feet. I know our team at the CNMI Public Assistance Office is working hard, and I have confidence that we’ll continue pushing forward together. These funds are meant to help our students and families, and that’s what we’re focused on.
