Working to Advance Disaster Unemployment Assistance

Disaster Unemployment Assistance can provide critical support for workers who lost income because of Super Typhoon Sinlaku, and we know many businesses and employees have been, and continue to be, affected. We have been working closely with FEMA to help move the CNMI’s request forward. After speaking with FEMA Region 9 leadership last week, we confirmed that the Commonwealth’s request remains under active federal review and clarified the remaining steps in the process. We also confirmed that congressional notification for larger awards is required by law, but it is not a vote or separate approval by Congress. We will continue working with FEMA, the CNMI Department of Labor, and our federal partners to help move the process forward, support implementation once approved and keep our community informed.
