Welcoming Secretary of Defense Hegseth to the Marianas

Secretary of Defense Peter Hegseth visited the Marianas this week, making a stop in Guam to tour military installations and meet with Governors Lou Leon Guerrero and Arnold Palacios. Ahead of his visit, I provided Secretary Hegseth with a letter welcoming him to our islands and outlining how the CNMI can play a vital role in advancing U.S. security interests in the region. My message was clear: our national defense depends not only on geography, but also on a strong and stable economy in the CNMI. The Marianas’ economic potential is a national asset, and I look forward to continuing our engagement with the Department of Defense to ensure our region remains a key partner in strengthening America’s future.
