On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of joining the Civics in a Year podcast from the Center for American Civics at Arizona State University for a conversation about representation in Congress and what it means to serve as the Delegate for the Northern Marianas. We talked about how territorial delegates work to ensure our communities have a voice in national policy, even without a floor vote, and what I wish more people understood about the role and responsibilities that come with our islands’ special relationship with the federal government. I also shared some of the challenges and opportunities facing the Northern Marianas, and the lessons our islands can offer the rest of the country. It was a thoughtful discussion, and I’m grateful to the team at ASU for shining a light on the voices and stories of America’s territories. Go Sun Devils!
