On Tuesday, I participated in the House Small Business Committee’s hearing entitled “From Service to Startup: Empowering Veteran Entrepreneurs”. The hearing focused on the importance of veteran entrepreneurs, removing barriers to entry for veterans into entrepreneurship, and how the federal government could better support veteras wishing to be entrepreneurs. The witnesses, which included veteran small business owners and representatives from non-profits that aid veteran entrepreneurs, highlighted several ways Congress could act to better support aspiring and existing veteran entrepreneurs. These included making available resources more accessible, improving access to capital by accounting for the unique credit profiles that result from a military career, and making it easier for veteran small business owners to form peer to peer networks with new or soon to be veterans. I look forward to working with the committee to enact reforms based on their suggestions to aid veteran entrepreneurs, who will be at the center of any sustained economic recovery in our community.
