This remarkable little fish was uncovered during the Mariana Abyssal Research Initiative (MARI), a multinational expedition that brought together marine scientists from twelve countries to explore the Trench. Aby’s unique cellular makeup allows it to survive the extreme pressure of the deep ocean, offering researchers exciting insights into how life adapts in such harsh environments. As scientists continue to study this discovery, it’s a great reminder of how much we still have to learn about the ocean right here in our own backyard.
