The Department of the Navy released the Revised Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Joint Military Training (CJMT) on Tinian. The plan outlines some major changes, including construction of live-fire ranges, a new base camp, communications infrastructure, and a biosecurity facility at the Port of Tinian. Thankfully, federal law provides the community with a process to weigh in. A 75-day public comment period has now opened and will run through August 20, 2025. In-person meetings will be held on Tinian, Saipan, and Rota this month to share information, gather feedback, and meet National Historic Preservation Act requirements. As your congressional office, we continue to closely follow this process to ensure the people of the Marianas have their voices heard and that any future action includes robust community input, environmental safeguards, and meaningful local engagement. I encourage you to visit www.CNMIJointMilitaryTrainingEIS.com to read the Revised Draft EIS and submit comments.
