Promoting Cybersecurity for Small Businesses
I was an original cosponsor of Congressman Tony Wied’s (R-WI) H.R. 10238, Cybersecurity for Small Businesses Act, which would help small businesses strengthen cybersecurity and better understand federal requirements. The legislation directs the Small Business Administration to work with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to provide practical cybersecurity guidance. It also requires coordination with the Secretary of War to provide guidance on the Department of War’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program, which applies to businesses involved in military contracting, including small contractors in the CNMI. Small businesses face growing cyber threats from foreign adversaries, including the Chinese Communist Party, but often lack the resources and expertise of larger companies. This bill would make federal cybersecurity guidance more accessible and help businesses seeking military contracts understand and meet CMMC requirements. Protecting the CNMI’s small businesses strengthens our economy and our national security. You can read the press release here.
