Next Steps on the CNMI Immigration Transition Period

In June, I shared a framework on the future of the CNMI’s immigration transition period, which is set to expire in 2029. The goal was to kick off a conversation, one centered on what kind of workforce system we need to build, and how we can prepare now to grow our economy with the support of federal tools. I sent this to community organizations, government agencies, and you, the people of the CNMI. And you responded. We’ve received a wave of thoughtful feedback, ideas, and suggestions, and I want you to know we’re listening. We’re now reviewing your input and starting to draft a bill informed by your voices. This is how the legislative process should work - rooted in community dialogue, built around real needs, and shaped by the people who will live with the outcome.
