NEH Rescinds April Termination Letter

In April, the CNMI received three termination letters from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) that would eliminate grants awarded to the CNMI. Upon being notified, I urged the Trump Administration and NEH to reconsider their decision as these cuts would harm efforts aimed at promoting and preserving our cultural heritage in the Marianas. This week, the CNMI received great news that the NEH rescinded one of the letters — allowing the continuation of approved activities, through the Northern Marianas Humanities Council, without disruption. The NEH further indicated it will issue a partial award to the council to fulfill the congressionally mandated minimum 20 percent allocation for the General Operating Support (GOS) grant in Fiscal Year 2025. I remain dedicated to advocating on behalf of our unique culture in the Marianas and will keep pushing to keep our critical funding.
