Meeting with the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States
Last Tuesday, I met with His Excellency Archbishop Gabriele Giordano Caccia, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, at the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington, D.C. Archbishop Caccia serves as the Pope’s representative to the United States and as an important bridge between the Catholic Church in America and the Holy See. We spoke about the history of relations between the United States and Vatican City, as well as the deep and historic ties between the Catholic Church and the Northern Marianas. I shared the important role the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa continues to play in the life of our Commonwealth and how the Church remains a cornerstone of our communities today. As someone raised in a devout Catholic family, this conversation was especially meaningful to me. The faith of our people has been passed down through generations and continues to shape the values, traditions, and community life of the CNMI. Archbishop Caccia’s previous service as Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines also gave him a personal familiarity with our part of the Pacific and the region’s Catholic community. During our meeting, I also extended an invitation for His Holiness Pope Leo XIV to visit the Northern Marianas in the future. It would be a tremendous honor for our people to welcome the Holy Father and share with him the faith, culture, and spirit of the Marianas.
