Medicaid Stability and Economic Relief for the Marianas Preserved in House Reconciliation Bill
Last week, the U.S. House passed the 2025 Reconciliation Bill, also called the “One Big Beautiful Bill”, and I’m glad to report that key programs for the Marianas remain protected. The bill keeps our Medicaid structure intact, preserving both the 83% federal match rate and our capped federal funding of approximately $66 million. This is a critical win for healthcare stability in the CNMI. The bill also includes economic relief for working families by increasing the Child Tax Credit from $2,000 to $2,500 per child and eliminating federal taxes on tips, overtime pay, and interest on auto loans for American-made vehicles. While some parts of the bill have drawn criticism, I’ve worked hard to ensure that essential programs like Medicaid, and nutrition assistance. As the bill moves to the Senate, I’ll continue monitoring the process and fighting to protect the resources that matter most to our community. This is one step forward—and there’s more to come.
