Mail Delays Acknowledged and Under Review

I received a response this week from the U.S. Postal Service following my January letter raising concerns about persistent mail delays to the CNMI. USPS acknowledged that several Priority Mail items sent to Saipan were mishandled within the domestic processing network and incorrectly routed by surface transportation instead of air. They apologized for the error and confirmed that this was not due to hazardous materials or other shipping restrictions. USPS officials shared that these cases are now under continued managerial review and that the information provided by my office is being used to identify problem facilities and transportation routes. They also committed to refining internal processes to ensure mail destined for offshore communities like ours is properly routed going forward. Reliable mail service is essential for families, businesses, and access to medical supplies in the CNMI. The people of the Commonwealth are looking for noticeable, consistent improvements in delivery times, and that is the standard USPS should be held to. I will continue pressing and following up until we see real, measurable changes in how mail to our islands is handled.
