Joining the Fight to Lower Shipping Costs to the CNMI

Living in the Northern Marianas is far too expensive, with rising costs for basic necessities making life harder for our families. A major driver of these high prices is the cost of shipping goods to the CNMI. That’s why I am proud to cosponsor H.R. 380, the Affordable Shipping for All Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at ending discriminatory shipping practices targeting non-contiguous areas like ours. This legislation ensures that no shipping company, including the United States Postal Service, can impose unfair rates or exclude areas like the CNMI from service. It also mandates that shipping rates reflect actual service costs, preventing arbitrary price increases. The CNMI relies on imports for nearly all the goods we buy, and unfair shipping costs hurt families and businesses. Congress has a duty to promote fair competition and reduce the financial strain on families trying to stretch every dollar. I am proud to join this effort to lower the cost of living for our community and will continue working to make life in the CNMI more affordable for you.
