Joining the call to protect critical CNMI programs with the Congressional Hispanic Conference

This week, I joined the Congressional Hispanic Conference in writing a letter to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson. In the letter, we affirmed our commitment to policies improving border security, defending small businesses, and cutting wasteful spending. However, we voiced concerns over eliminating funding for essential programs that communities like CNMI disproportionately rely upon. We asked that funding not be cut from programs like Pell Grants, Medicaid, and SNAP, which are so essential to our people. As mainland Hispanic communities are in similar situations as the CNMI, I found that signing on to this was a great opportunity to join forces with Members with constituencies that face similar concerns to ours.
