In advance of the Natural Resources committee hearing on deep sea mining, on Tuesday I met with Impossible Metals CEO Oliver Gunasekara and his team. I shared with him our concerns regarding ensuring proper environmental review of any mining proposal for the waters offshore the CNMI, economic benefits to our local community, and encouraged him to engage meaningfully with people at home to account for their concerns. I appreciated his team requesting to meet with me and look forward to maintaining this engagement in the future.
