Geopolitics of the NMI in Focus
I had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Robert Underwood, Chairman of the Pacific Center for Island Security and former Delegate of Guam, to discuss the think tank’s work and the geopolitical role of our islands. The Northern Marianas and other Pacific islands are at the forefront of advancing American ideals of freedom and democracy in the Indo-Pacific. However, I have long believed we are more than just strategic locations for military operations. Our islands can strengthen national security by showcasing the potential of American ideals and economic success in this region of the world. Economic stability is essential for geopolitical strength, and those living in the islands bring invaluable perspectives to these discussions. I am grateful to Dr. Underwood and PCIS for amplifying the voices of the Pacific and ensuring our role in these discussions is recognized.
