FEMA Deadlines to Protect Recovery Funds
Earlier this week, I wrote to Governor Arnold Palacios to share updates from my meeting with FEMA Region IX Administrator Robert Fenton regarding the six-month deadline for Super Typhoon Yutu recovery projects. With FEMA signaling that all prior time extension requests are now covered under a blanket extension, and only a few Environmental and Historic Preservation reviews remaining, the message was clear: we must show real progress by October 2025 or risk losing unspent recovery funds. I wanted to ensure that the CNMI government had all the information I had as it moves these projects forward. I was happy to receive a response from Governor Palacios providing additional information on the programs involved and appreciate the open communication as we work together to ensure these recovery dollars are protected. My office remains committed to assisting however we can to help the CNMI meet FEMA’s expectations and complete these much-needed projects.
