Federal Disaster Declaration Approved for the CNMI

The President has approved the Major Disaster Declaration for the CNMI following the impacts of Super Typhoon Sinlaku. This action makes federal resources available to support recovery across the Commonwealth, including Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and the Northern Islands. It includes assistance for individuals and families, support for public infrastructure, and access to hazard mitigation programs to reduce future risk. Importantly, the declaration provides for full federal coverage, for a limited period, of debris removal and emergency protective measures. That allows immediate response work to move forward without placing additional strain on local resources. This is such welcomed news, and I want to thank President Trump, his team, and House leadership for hearing our request, working with us, and acting quickly to get resources mobilized to our people. My office will continue working with federal and local partners to make sure these resources are accessible and that support reaches those who need it.
