Fair Access to Veterans' Education Benefits in the CNMI
For many veterans, life after service is about pursuing education and developing new skills to succeed in the workforce. Programs like the Digital GI Bill Program, Fry Scholarship, and other VA educational benefits support this transition. However, veterans in the Marianas are often put at a disadvantage when accessing these education benefits due to a lack of program availability, internet access, and VA outreach. During a House Veterans Affairs Committee hearing this week, I questioned officials from the VA on their plans to promote and digitize educational opportunities in the CNMI. Their responses were lackluster - one even said he’d need additional funding to even visit our islands. To me, and to the people I represent, that is unacceptable, and we can and must do better.
