Digging into CNMI’s Complex Stories with Sophia Perez

I had the opportunity to connect virtually this week with a friend and former resident of the Marianas, Sophia Perez. Sophia is an incredibly talented writer and researcher who has contributed to many important issues, both during her time as a journalist on island and now as a researcher. She currently serves as the Indigenous Technologies Coordinator at the Berkeley Center for New Media, while also pursuing her PhD in Geography. We spoke about the revised Department of Defense proposal on Joint Military Training in the CNMI and the projects she is leading to explore the fascinating and complex issues facing our islands.
