Cutting red tape for smarter development in the Marianas

This week I supported the Promoting Efficient Review for Modern Infrastructure Today (PERMIT) Act, which was passed by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Wednesday. This bill makes targeted, commonsense reforms to the Clean Water Act permitting process, reforms that will directly benefit the CNMI as we work to grow our economy and improve local infrastructure. For our islands, this means a more efficient path to completing critical projects, like shoreline improvements, ports, roads, and renewable energy systems, by reducing permitting delays while maintaining environmental protections. The PERMIT Act provides regulatory clarity and accelerates review timelines, helping the CNMI build smarter, faster, and with less bureaucracy. As a T&I Committee member, I will continue to support efforts that improve federal responsiveness to the unique infrastructure needs of our islands.
