Congress Passes Funding Bill to Reopen Government
With House passage of the continuing resolution, the Senate amendment to H.R. 5371, and the President’s swift signing of the bill, the longest federal government shutdown in history finally came to an end late Wednesday night. This stopgap measure extends government funding at current levels through January 30, 2026, for most federal departments and programs, while providing full-year funding for the Department of Agriculture, the legislative branch, military construction, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. This is such welcome news for everyone, especially for us in the Marianas where so many individuals rely on vital federal services like nutrition assistance, WIC, and programs that support families and veterans. I know how stressful this shutdown has been for many, and I’m relieved that federal services can now continue without further disruption. With the shutdown finally behind us, I’m eager to get back to work with my colleagues in the House to tackle the issues that matter most to you and all Americans.
