Catching Up with Herman’s Modern Bakery
Last week, I had the chance to catch up with the incredible people behind one of our island’s most beloved institutions: Herman’s Modern Bakery. Since 1944, Herman’s has been more than a business — it’s been a part of our daily lives, our celebrations, and our memories. Today, it stands as a powerful example of what it means to be a small business in the CNMI — rooted in history, committed to servicing our community, and always adapting through the decades. I was grateful to sit down with General Manager Joseph Leepan Guerrero, and members of Board of Directors Annie Hayes, and Herman Guerrero to talk about the challenges they face and how I can support businesses like theirs in Congress. Thank you for keeping this legacy alive and for reminding us what perseverance and community look like in action.
