Casting My First Floor Vote

I cast my first floor vote Thursday when the House considered H.R. 1048, the Defending Education Transparency and Ending Rogue Regimes Engaging in Nefarious Transactions (DETERRENT) Act. This bill protects our institutions of higher education from foreign interference by strengthening disclosure requirements for foreign gifts and contracts between these schools and certain foreign entities of concern. I voted against several amendments aimed at weakening the bill in the Committee of the Whole House. The DETERRENT Act brings much-needed transparency, accountability, and clarity to foreign gift reporting requirements for colleges and universities across the nation.
