C37 Work Permit Renewals and USCIS Processing Update
Some CNMI long term residents have recently experienced problems renewing their C37 work permits, including applications being returned or delayed despite being filed correctly. I shared an update after receiving clarification from USCIS on what is happening and how affected applicants should proceed. USCIS has confirmed that the correct renewal fee for C37 Employment Authorization Documents remains $520 and that some applications were rejected in error due to processing issues. Applicants who were affected have been advised to refile with the same documents and valid payment. USCIS has also indicated that the original receipt date will be honored once the application is properly processed. There is no automatic extension of work authorization for C37 renewals, so it is important that individuals act early if they are approaching an expiration date. If you are experiencing delays or problems, my district offices on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota are available to help document issues and raise them with USCIS. Reaching out early gives us the best chance to assist. For more information, take a look at the release we issued this week.
