Building Opportunity Through Ship Repair and Maritime Industry

While on Guam, I had the opportunity to meet with the team at Cabras Marine, who play a critical role in servicing and supporting military vessels in both Guam and the CNMI. We discussed the recent inclusion of the CNMI in the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, which makes the Commonwealth eligible for military ship repair and construction projects. This change opens the door to new opportunities for employment, workforce development, and long term economic growth in the Marianas. I appreciated the tour of their facility and the chance to learn more about the work they do, the skills required in this industry, and what it will take to ensure our people are prepared to take part in these opportunities as they come online.
