Bringing the CNMI into the Global Trade Conversation
With so much happening internationally in response to President Trump’s announcement of reciprocal tariffs—originally set to take effect this week—it’s important that the CNMI isn’t left out of the conversation. While most tariffs have been delayed by 90 days, the President has made clear that negotiations are still on the table, saying, “there are things that we need beyond tariffs.” That’s why I wrote to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer this week to highlight how targeted investment in critical sectors in the CNMI can help advance American economic growth in the Indo-Pacific and support our shared goal of rebuilding a strong, resilient private sector at home. I look forward to working with the White House and our federal partners to ensure the CNMI’s priorities are part of these broader international discussions.
