Addressing Medicaid Inequities with CHCC Leadership

This week, former Governor Juan N. Babauta, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation, visited the congressional office during his time in Washington, DC. We spoke about the possibility of increasing or eliminating the restrictive cap on Medicaid funds for the NMI. Unlike the 50 states, the Medicaid program in the NMI operates under a cap set by the federal government. The cap leads to challenges in providing comprehensive health care services compared to the states, where Medicaid funding is more flexible. I am committed to working with our stakeholders and strategically engaging my colleagues in Congress, to push for much needed Medicaid reforms and funding that is equitable for the people of the Marianas.
