Addressing Healthcare Challenges Together with CHCC
I sincerely appreciate the dialogue and partnership with our islands’ primary healthcare provider, the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation (CHCC). CEO Esther Muna and her team provide an essential service to our community, and the challenges they face often reflect the overall state of our islands. CHCC is a primary recipient of the federally supported Medicaid program, so changes to Medicaid have a direct impact on their ability to deliver care. At the same time, Medicaid offers opportunities to improve and expand our healthcare system. In our meeting this week, we discussed the hospital’s current operations, the financial and staffing challenges they are navigating, and how federal and local resources can be aligned to deliver the best possible care. I value CHCC’s commitment to serving every patient who walks through their doors, and I will continue working with them to ensure the people of the Marianas have access to high-quality healthcare close to home.
