$7.1 Million For VA Cemeteries in Tinian and Rota
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has awarded more than $7.1 million to the Commonwealth to establish Veterans cemeteries on Tinian and Rota. The VA’s National Cemetery Administration awarded up to $3.11 million for Tinian and $3.51 million for Rota and will reimburse the Commonwealth up to $538,600 for the fabrication and delivery of pre-placed crypts. Each cemetery will serve Veterans and eligible family members, with funding for 40 crypts, 40 columbarium niches, memorial walls, committal shelters, flag areas, access roads, walkways, landscaping, fencing, maintenance facilities, and other improvements. The Rota cemetery will also include a water tank and solar power system. Our veterans answered the call to serve our nation, and they deserve to be honored with dignity, not only during their service, but for generations after. These investments on Tinian and Rota will help ensure our veterans and their families can remain close to their communities while receiving the honor and respect they have earned. I am grateful to the VA and to our CNMI partners who helped make this possible.
