The House Appropriations Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee approved its Fiscal Year 2026 bill Monday which includes $2 million in Community Project Funding I requested for the Marianas. The $2,000,000 will go to the Commonwealth’s Department of Public Works for completing Route 36 (Chalan Kalabera) in Saipan. In addition to the directed highway funding, the House Appropriations Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration Subcommittee also approved funding for three projects I requested addressing needs across the Marianas. These include $1.5 million for the Office of the Mayor of Saipan to acquire heavy equipment, $1 million for the Tinian Mayor’s Office to support water infrastructure for homestead expansion in Marpo Heights, and $1 million in additional funding for the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation to build a new medical supplies warehouse. I thank DPW, the mayors, and CHCC for the strong justifications they provided in support of these projects. Together, we are making sure federal resources are directed where they are most needed, supporting our communities and strengthening critical infrastructure. The Transportation and Agriculture spending packages now move to the full House for consideration.
