$21.4M for CUC Storm Recovery and Grid Resilience

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program has awarded a $21.4 million grant to the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation to support recovery from Super Typhoon Sinlaku and Typhoon Bavi. The funding will provide $15 million to replace diesel generation equipment, $4 million to install concrete poles to strengthen CUC’s distribution infrastructure, and $2.4 million for trucks and other equipment needed for restoration and repairs. This investment will help CUC recover critical utility infrastructure damaged by two major storms while strengthening the Commonwealth’s electric system for future disasters.
