$1.9 Million for Park Improvement Projects

The Commonwealth’s Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) has been awarded $1,877,097 through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) to support three outdoor recreation and infrastructure projects across the islands. These federally funded initiatives will enhance public parks and recreational spaces for local communities. The funded projects include:
$1,263,045 – Kagman II Basketball Court and Park Improvement Project: This project will enhance Kagman Community Park with the construction of a covered basketball court and parking lot, installation of solar-powered lighting, and replacement of the existing playground and restroom facilities.
$358,363 – Tinian Lookout Point: A new lookout deck with safety railings will be constructed at the Carolinas Overlook. The project also includes a parking area, pedestrian walkway, and installation of bench and table sets.
$255,689 – Tinian Skate Park: A new skate facility with lighting and supporting amenities will be built at the DCCA Complex to provide a safe and vibrant space for youth recreation.
These projects are funded by the LWCF State and Local Assistance Program, which supports locally-driven park and recreation initiatives outside the boundaries of national parks. LWCF grants are awarded through a competitive process and are managed by local agencies. Funding is primarily sourced from offshore oil and gas lease revenues, permanently authorized under the Great American Outdoors Act. Congratulations to DLNR for securing this critical funding and continuing to invest in the Commonwealth’s natural and recreational resources.
