Touching Base on Rota’s Recovery
I had the opportunity to visit Rota last week with Mayor Aubrey Hocog to get a firsthand look at the progress being made in the island’s recovery from Super Typhoon Bavi. It was also a chance to check back in with the community following my visit shortly after the typhoon struck in July. Mayor Aubrey, her team, and the people of Rota have done a phenomenal job managing recovery efforts and making sure the needs of the island are being met. We also talked through the logistical and coordination challenges that still need to be overcome to bring greater resources to Rota and keep the recovery moving forward. A big thank you to Mayor Aubrey, her team, and the people of Rota for continuing to show what strong community leadership looks like after a disaster. I look forward to bringing that same spirit to my work with our federal partners and making sure Rota has the resources and support it needs to recover.
