Medicaid’s Role and Resources During Recovery
Medicaid is one of the most important healthcare lifelines in the CNMI. Before Super Typhoon Sinlaku, it was estimated that roughly half of our population relied on the program for access to care. That reflects the financial pressures many families in our community are already facing. After the storm, those challenges have only grown. I met with the CNMI Medicaid Office this week to talk through the role Medicaid will continue to play in recovery and the additional resources needed to meet the demand ahead. The team is ready for the work, but the scale of this disaster means they will need stronger federal support to continue serving our community effectively. Our conversation focused on the needs they are seeing on the ground and how the federal government can best help strengthen the program during this recovery period. Thank you to the CNMI Medicaid team for your partnership and for the work you continue to do for our people.
