Learning from Governor Torres’ Experience
The CNMI knows the reality of recovering from major typhoons, and each disaster leaves lessons that can help shape the next response. I was grateful for the opportunity to meet with former Governor Ralph Torres to talk through his experiences during Super Typhoons Soudelor and Yutu, including navigating federal recovery processes, identifying the kinds of resources that best meet the needs of our people, and how I can be most effective in supporting recovery efforts now. We also talked about the continued work being done through the Lady Diann Foundation and regional partners, which have helped distribute relief supplies to more than 600 homes across Saipan, Tinian, and Rota. Thank you, Governor Torres, for sharing your experience and for the continued work being done to support our islands.
