Leadership at work in Rota!

Rota has such a remarkable history of producing intelligent, thoughtful, and proactive leaders of the Commonwealth. While I was in Rota over the weekend, I had the great honor of meeting with the island’s current leaders—each a testament to that enduring legacy. We met at our newly opened Rota District Office, where we had the opportunity to discuss the forecasted U.S. Air Force airport runway expansion project, as well as the budgetary constraints affecting local operations and infrastructure. We also explored how the Delegate’s office can collaborate with Rota leadership on broader priorities—advocating for reliable and consistent Essential Air Service, and ensuring that Rota has equitable access to federal services and programs.  I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to support the leadership’s efforts to resolve the years-long challenge of Customs and Border Protection’s outbound processing for flights from Rota to Guam. Their work with CBP to develop a virtual processing system is an innovative and cost-saving solution—enhancing border security while saving the municipality thousands of dollars. That’s leadership at work in Rota! Our office stands ready to assist, whether it’s identifying federal funding opportunities, or facilitating interagency coordination.
