King-Hinds Partners with U.S. State Department to Assist Residents Who Lost Passports During Sinlaku

Saipan – Congresswoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds announced that representatives from the U.S. Department of State's Honolulu Passport Agency will be on Saipan next week to assist residents seeking to replace U.S. passports lost during Super Typhoon Sinlaku.

The passport assistance event will be held Tuesday, August 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe. Representatives from the Honolulu Passport Agency will be available to accept applications for replacement passports and provide information about the passport application process.

King-Hinds said the event is part of ongoing efforts to bring federal services directly to residents as the Commonwealth continues its recovery from the storm.

"Recovery involves a lot of things that may seem small until you are the person trying to replace something that was lost or damaged," said Congresswoman King-Hinds. "For residents who lost their passports during the typhoon, replacing those documents is one more thing they have to take care of while they are already dealing with repairs, expenses, and all the other things that come with recovery. I appreciate the Department of State and the Honolulu Passport Agency for working with our office to bring this service to our community."

The Department of State encourages U.S. citizens to apply for passports well in advance of planned travel. Residents may also continue to submit passport applications through the Saipan Passport Office.

"Our job during recovery is to identify where we can make things a little easier for our people and then work with our federal partners to make that happen," King-Hinds said. "I encourage anyone who lost their passport during Sinlaku and needs a replacement to take advantage of this opportunity."
